    Tooth whitening Products Facts

    Teeth Whitening Products Facts

To be an effective tooth whitening product the concentration of active ingredients must be over a certain level. That is the hydrogen peroxide concentration needs to be above 3% (or 9% carbamide peroxide).

Concentrations that are effective for teeth whitening can also be potentially damaging unless used in the correct way. Please follow the instructions of your dentist before using the tooth whitening products.

Effective concentrations can cause unpredictable results unless you have had your teeth examined by a dentist first. You may end up with some teeth white and some teeth not.

Internet supplied and non-dental supplied tooth whitening kits have been found to contain unsafe ingredients. The teeth whitening gels are also not viscous enough and their acidity is potentially damaging to the surface of the teeth

The ACCC has advised the recall of many home bleaching kits. Any kits that contain hydrogen peroxide concentration of over 6% (18% carbamide peroxide) can ulcerate the gum, blister lips and cause throat irritation.
